Project Overview

Rural Clinic Solar Installation

Client Challenge
A health clinic suffered daily grid outages affecting vaccine cold-chain storage, labs, and lighting. Diesel generators were expensive and often unreliable.

AKO Solution
AKO installed a hybrid solar + grid system with LiFePO4 battery storage, prioritizing critical circuits for fridges, labs, and theatre lighting.

Engineering Considerations
Battery autonomy ensured hours of power during outages. Smart inverter controls balanced solar, grid, and generator inputs. Surge protection and proper earthing were included for safety.

System Specs

  • • 10 kWp solar array
  • • 15 kWh LiFePO4 storage
  • • Hybrid inverter
  • • Critical-loads distribution board

Results

  • • 24/7 power for critical loads
  • • Zero vaccine spoilage
  • • Generator use minimized
  • • Staff trained on system operation

Where AKO Has Done Similar Projects

AKO has supported estates, gated communities and mixed-use developments around Nairobi and its environs (including Kiambu, Ruiru, Juja, Athi River, Ongata Rongai, Ngong and Limuru), as well as estate clusters in Nakuru, Naivasha, Kisumu and Mombasa. This gives our team a strong reference base for pressure zoning, storage configuration and redundancy in modern residential settings.
